Advisory Council Want to work with park managers to make Boston Harbor Islands a better place? Become an Advisory Council member. The council's purpose is to advise and make recommendations to the Partnership on the development and implementation of the general management plan for the islands, including ongoing park operations. Boston Light Interpretative Services Volunteers help park rangers and lightkeepers with visitor services and interpretation on Little Brewster Island, home of Boston Light. Most volunteers are members of US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Very few positions are available for the general public.
Campground Host Assists on-island rangers and campers on DCR camping islands. Volunteer must bring their own supplies and camping equipment. NO RV's, tent camping only. Minimum commitment 2 weekends per season.

Lightkeeping Volunteers stand watch on Little Brewster Island. Volunteer must belong to the US Coast Guard Auxiliary to be considered.
Natural Resources Intern
Office Assistant Volunteer duties are general office work and may include review/editing, filing, data entry, mailings etc. Mimimum commitment of 8 hours a month for at least 3 months.

Program & Event Support Volunteers help support events in a variety of ways. They may help set up or staff the event. These opportunities are usually one time commitments with training provided that day. Help with the Regatta, Fun Run, Park Serve or Junior Ranger Day. Sign up and we will contact you about upcoming opportunities to see if you might be interested or available.
Stewardship Saturdays Protect and enhance native biodiversity in wild natural areas of the park alongside park rangers. Participate in citizen science efforts to monitor climate change or marine invasives. Opportunities every Saturday from May to September and once a month in winter. Stewardship-General
Visitor Services Assists rangers at islands served by public ferry and/or at gateways. Specific duties include answering questions from the public and providing verbal and printed information about planning their trip, program and events and providing general park orientation. Minimum time commitment of ten 4-hour shifts a season (May - October).
Volunteer Service Providers - Educational Shops Volunteer Service Providers facilitate the smooth running of educational shops located Georges and Spectacle Islands. The stores provide visitors the opportunity to buy educational materials, mementos or convenience items to help add to their enjoyment and understanding of the park and its resources.

A minimum time commitment of one day per week for a minimum of 12 weeks is required. Shift times are to be determined, but will correspond to the boat times, and be about 5 hours (including travel time). Ferry tickets will be provided. Waterbird Monitoring Responsibilities include estimating nesting pairs and/or counting nests of a variety of species using both boat-based and ground-based survey methods; accurately recording data onto field data sheets; recording location information using field maps and gps units.

Minimum commitment: Attendence at a m andatory 1/2 day training (on a weekday in early May) and availability for at least three 5 hour shifts (7:30am -12:00pm) on 10 scheduled weekdays (May-July).
Website Assistant Volunteer helps maintain park websites and/or web-based applications. Minimum commitment includes training and 10 hours per month for at least 3 months.
